What to consider when planning a new kitchen

The functionality of the kitchen is of paramount importance, the kitchen should be planning in such a way as to be as convenient as possible during its operation. Only after you correctly arrange the furniture modules, household appliances, you can move on to the design part of the kitchen planning. Determining the location of the lower cabinets is crucial in the process of arranging all the furniture and appliances in the kitchen. At the same time, the part of the kitchen that is at eye level – that is, the upper cupboards – mezzanines, has a greater influence on aesthetic perception. Thus, the design sequence needs to begin with the cabinets, and after arranging them, you need to move on to the mezzanines.

Often the limited space does not allow your kitchen to perform all the functions that you expect from it. Therefore, the statement remains true that simplicity is all power. Avoid too many horizontal lines (level differences). Use decorative drawers, kitchen items and accessories in a reasonable manner. The scenery here appears as a “seasoning”. A pinch will enrich the modern kitchen, while too much can spoil the whole impression of the final result.

Often, the planning of kitchen furniture is very tied to the planning of the apartment and the kitchen itself. It is necessary to take into account the various protrusions of the walls, ducts, pipes and so on. Sometimes it is not easy.

To design a convenient and comfortable kitchen, you must first decide what you need a kitchen for, how you spend time there. How often and how much you cook, do you host guests in the kitchen, do you have a big family, how many products do you buy and where do you prefer to store them.

The more a kitchen furniture designer learns about your needs and desires, the better he will be able to take them into account when designing. Therefore, it is so important to prepare well for a conversation about a kitchen project. In a properly designed kitchen, movements are minimized and time is saved.

The planning of your kitchen sets the tone for its surroundings and use. Some kitchens are “tailored” for communication, comfort, some for maximum productivity, and some in order to achieve as much available space as possible, taking into account the planning of the rest of your home.

All existing types of plannings are usually divided into six main ones:
1. Linear kitchen
2. Gallery (two-linear) kitchen
3. Corner kitchen
4. Portal (P-shaped) kitchen
5. Peninsular kitchen
6. Island kitchen
Linear kitchen.
All components of the linear kitchen are lined up along the wall. Preferred sequence of components: storage space – refrigerator, sink, work area of the worktop for cutting, stove. Placing furniture in one line is most often associated either with the small size of the kitchen, or with the use of a spacious room, when there is a recreation area in one part of a large room, and the other is intended for cooking and eating.

Gallery (two-linear) kitchen.
Two opposite walls of the kitchen room are involved, moving from one component of the kitchen to another is simplified. For example, you can cut on one row and cook on another, directly behind you. A similar planning is often used in elongated kitchens. However, it is inconvenient if your kitchen is a walk-through – you will constantly find yourself on someone’s way. Having chosen this option, make sure that there is enough space between the cabinets opposite, so that their doors can be opened at the same time (this is at least 1.2 m). The stove and sink should be placed along one wall, and the refrigerator along the other. This is a safer option – no one will get burned by transferring hot dishes from one table to another.

Corner kitchen.
The kitchen is built along two walls located to each other at an angle of 90 degrees or close to this value. A corner planning of the kitchen is the most common option – it is suitable for almost any room, even for a small or walk-through kitchen. If the kitchen is corner-shaped and has large dimensions, then the distance between the work centers (sink, stove, refrigerator) becomes too large, so these centers need to be located closer to each other, leaving a working cutting area of the worktop between them. With this planning, the space free from the kitchen creates a wonderful niche for a comfortable and cozy dining area.

Portal (P-shaped) kitchen.
By fully utilizing the three walls in the kitchen, you maximize the use of the kitchen space and use a large area of the kitchen worktop, getting an excellent field for activity. At the same time, the size of the kitchen should be quite large – with compressed sizes, inconvenience and crowding is created. There is usually a lot of space for storing dishes and products in a kitchen with such planning.
Peninsular kitchen.
A peninsular kitchen is any of the kitchen planning options with the additional issue of either a work surface or a cupboard with a sink or stove. As a rule, this is a ledge separating the kitchen from the dining room. It can be used in the same way as a bar counter or a serving table.

Island kitchen.
This is a kitchen of any planning with an addition in the center. This planning of the kitchen is suitable only for a large room. The most convenient dimensions of the “island” are 1200×1200 mm. In the traditional version, a table with a sink or stove is brought out to the middle of the kitchen. You can also use this space as a work surface.

The island planning, like the peninsular, adds at least one more working area, thus providing two people with the opportunity to work in the kitchen without interfering with each other. In addition, this area can be used for relaxation.

Although there are six classical types of kitchen plannings, the basis is two types – linear and corner kitchens, with the addition of an additional zone adjacent or not to the main kitchen. Thus, when designing a kitchen of any complexity, you first need to decide which location will be the basis for the planning of the kitchen – corner or linear.
